Our Best of Italy
Close your eyes and picture Italy’s countryside. Got it in your mind? Okay, good.
Well, that’s not what it’s like here in Tuscany today (it’s blustery), making it a great time for an update. Read more
Awesome Adventures – The Olympics
Last year, we decided to – from time to time – highlight some of our most spectacular past journeys under an “Awesome Adventures” heading. To qualify, the journey has to be the best of the best. There aren’t many.
So far, we’ve only gotten around to sharing details from our visit to Antarctica and our quest to see the Northern Lights. Today, in honor of our All American month and the London Olympics, there’s a new Awesome Adventure to share. Read more
It’s a Wrap
We’re back home, happily recovering from our last round of travel. Here’s a look at some of the standout moments – good and bad – from the last several weeks. Read more
Yotel – Heathrow’s Black Light District
We had to kiss and make up with Delta. Since transatlantic ships don’t head east to west at this time of year, we had no choice. I guess we could have stayed in Europe until October, but we were jonesin’ for some Seattle.
We needed to break up our two day marathon back home with a stop in London. Rather than dropping pounds in the spendy city, we decided to try something new – a pod (I guess that’s what we’ll call it) at the Yotel in London’s Heathrow Airport. Read more
Last Friday Night (Dubrovnik Edition)
Our love affair with Croatia continues. So much so that – as was the case in Spain – we uncharacteristically became beach/water guys. I guess it’s that we wanted to experience everything. And when, last Friday, that included the opportunity to have our own private swimming/sunning spot for the day, we couldn’t pass it by.
What in the hell is happening to us? Read more
Get Croatia on Your Travel Bucket List
Before even getting off the plane, we knew we’d like Croatia. Our short flight from Spain took place on a particularly clear day, and we could see the jagged, verdant coastline as we flew along it into Dubrovnik.
I got goose bumps. That hasn’t happened in a long time. Read more
Woohoo! We’re Getting the iPhone 5
It finally happened. Letting our guard down after being in hyper-aware mode in Morocco, we were robbed soon after we arrived back in Spain. Read more
Crushing Out on Spain
We’re back in Spain bouncing around the coast outside of Barcelona. We are loving it!
Check out these photos. What’s not to love? Read more
How to Barter Like a Guilty Tourist
We have vacated our dream rental apartment in Barcelona. As I write this, we’re sitting at the airport having a pre-flight, early morning cup of coffee. Yes, we’re back in the game with airlines and their nefarious ways. This time, with a real heavy-hitter, Vueling. You’ve probably heard of Vueling. It’s the airline that hasn’t met a fee it doesn’t like to impose.
Just don’t call to inquire about those fees because they’ll charge you to speak with someone. Take that, despite the fact that Vueling claims to be “always thinking about you.” How sweet. Read more
Splashing Out with Celebrity Aqua Class
We are spoiled brats. We’re now in Barcelona (loving it!) and we kinda miss that ship.
We told you that – with all the uncertainty and drama surrounding China/India not working out and the associated red-hot rage directed at Delta – we decided to temporarily avoid flying. We also told you that we scored a ridonkulous last minute cruise deal on Celebrity. What we haven’t told you, until now, is that we decided “what the hell” and went full-on fancy schmancy for our trek across the Atlantic.
For less than $10 a day (for each of us), we upgraded from an already low priced standard balcony stateroom to Celebrity’s Aqua Class. We have only two words:
Hot. Damn.
Driving in Europe = We’re Idiots
All is well as we continue to slog our way to Mainland Europe via ship. We have found our groove and are happily settled into a nice work/explore balance. With a lot of work projects on our plates, we can sometimes have difficulty establishing a nice pace. That’s not the case this time around.
High fives all around. Well, mostly. Read more
We’re Avoiding Airline Fees
This just in.
We’re heading to Spain. Slowly. We’d rather spend 336 hours on a ship as opposed to 8 hours on Delta. Read more
Luxury on a Budget in Rome
We’re back from Vegas, resuming a slower paced, blur-free life.
Here it is, the end of January, and we’re feeling way behind in our efforts to get travel mapped out for 2012. We’re just starting to make progress brainstorming the outline of possible itineraries. One thing looks fairly certain. No Europe. Read more
Crawling Home
As I write this, we’ve almost completed our journey across the Atlantic. We started at a charming port city not far from Rome and will soon disembark in southern Florida for a last blast of fun before heading back to home base. Read more
Art Restores Balance
Last time we wrote, you know we were suffering from a bit of seasickness, over-swankification on this ship and a general sense of dis-ease. We were trying to get our groove back.
Interestingly, we’ve now become shipboard art fanatics. It’s actually just what we needed to restore a sense of balance. Read more
