We've lived this life for a lot of years now, but we still forget about the flexibility that our freedom-rich life affords us.
We spent a lot of days looking forward to getting in some last hikes before the mountains become un-hikeable. We've spent those same days dreading our plan to head out for one on Saturday, as the one we have planned – a top hike in the region – is notoriously packed on weekends.
Not until the morning of the hike (when conducting an experiment in turning our attitudes around) did we fully realize that we can easily switch up the content of our days. We're replacing the work we have planned for Tuesday with the hike. Easy.
Although we do remember our flexibility a lot, we have times where it's clear that our brains still contain some wiring for the way that the majority of those around us live.
Our freedom can be measured by the number of things we can walk away from. –Vernon Howard
