A Line in the Sand

NVR Guys

I'm gonna jump right into this and say that as much as popular travel destinations can deliver, they can also disappoint. Severely.

During the first part of 2014, we visited a couple that let us down.

Even worse, we had to admit that we visited one destination, in particular, simply because of its status as a "best of" travel destination. I question the interest we had in going there.

We usually do pretty well in this department, but, going forward, we're going to try to do even better. We want to take the time to further research destinations in order to ensure that the fit is right. For us. Not based solely on others' perceptions.

We're about to cancel some travel because we can't find a compelling reason why it makes good sense for us. I guess that's why I'm writing this; I need to talk myself into believing that a "top destination" may not hold appeal for us.

I guess this is the travel version of "live for yourself, not others."
