A big theme for us this year is Streamlining.
Over the last year, we’ve had to admit to ourselves that, while we’re living the life of our dreams, we’re not living it leanly. We embraced “be the kind of people who say yes” wholeheartedly and are now seeing the shadow side of what seems like such a positive approach.
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I’ll again say that all of the “good" started swirling a bit too fast. The learning: You can have too much of a good thing. Here’s an example…
We’ve been so grateful to have a robust portfolio of clients that it’s been an absolute pleasure to work as much as possible to keep up with client demand. That means that – when in Seattle between travel – we’d pretty routinely be working from about 6:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. nearly every day. After a couple years of that kind of schedule, we realized that it was too much.
So, even though the components of our NVR life are just right, we’ve been operating at an unsustainable level of intensity. We’ve now stepped into a much more realistic work schedule and are making shifts in other areas as well.
If you, like us, have the right elements in your life, we encourage you to take the lean test to see if you, too, are suffering from too much of a good thing.
Since we're now posting daily thoughts/tips on maximizing life/travel/work, there's no need to leave a comment. Instead, please pop in your best advice over on this page. Thanks!
