A couple of weeks ago, while we were in NYC, we told you about an ATM scam that we learned was becoming common.
As you read in that post, we were entirely clueless about the existence of such a scam. Soooo, at the urging of the NYCPD, we've since done some research...
Apparently, we now need to be aware of Money Trapping. This occurs when a criminal places a device over the money dispensing part of the ATM. The customer walks away thinking the ATM is broken, and then the criminal retrieves the money from the device.
Don't worry, we aren't turning this into a "things to be scared of" website. Our conversation with those police officers in NYC made it clear that we're behind in our knowledge of common scams, so we wanted to pass along the information.
