We recently read a 40K+ word retrospective of Android OS – a comprehensive article chronicling every iteration of the Mobile OS. In the age of Buzzfeed and Twitter, reading a 40K+ word article is remarkable enough. Reading a 40K+ word article on an operating system that we don’t even use (and as Apple zealots, likely will never use) seems crazy. But here is the thing: the article was written so expertly and with so much passion that it could have been about almost anything and it would have been enjoyable.
The combination of expertise and passion is a very potent mix. The example above is minor, but it is indicative of a larger point; we were moved to give our time (a precious commodity) to something completely outside of us simply because both passion and expertise were present.
