This week we're sharing the "best of" from our Southern Foodie Road Trip. As fairly constant travelers, we're often delighted but not often surprised. Trips are always made special when we're caught off guard by a positive experience.
During the road trip, our loyalty to Alaska Airlines paid off. We were upgraded in both directions of the journey. In a sea of airlines that make big promises but can't even deliver the bare minimum, Alaska does a good job making it's loyalty members feel valued with real perks. Like upgrades. Upgrades rock.
The other super sa-weet surprise on this trip full of great experiences was our stay at The Oliver Hotel in Knoxville, TN. As we said in a previous post, we were hosted by Visit Knoxville; they set us up really well. Even better, The Oliver Hotel is one of those places that we're confident "gets it right" even when they aren't giving you special treatment. We regularly do a lot of sleuthing (in order to determine how authentic the treatment we – as hosted guests – are getting). While at The Oliver, we witnessed example after example of truly exemplary treatment.
Service aside, the rooms at this place are gorgeous. In fact, we want their side tables so much that we got the contact information for the company that makes them. Icing on the cake? Something in the room was giving it a woody, leathery smell.
