It’s that time of year again – the season of gratitude, the time for giving and receiving. That can only mean one thing… Passports with Purpose (PwP) has arrived! Here's the deal. We want you to have a chance to win this (the "paradise" part)…
And definitely experience a lot of this (the "with purpose" part)…
Passports with Purpose, a giving back initiative that brings the travel community together, is guided by the belief that travel can change the world. Pretty cool, huh. Since giving back and travel are both big parts of what our No Vacation Required (NVR) lifestyle is all about, we are excited to help out. In fact, this will be our third year of involvement. A little history...
Back in 2008, the PwP crew raised about $7,500 for Heifer International. In 2009, they surpassed their goal and raised $30,000 to build a school in Cambodia. In 2010, our first year of involvement, we helped to blow past the $50,000 goal in order to build a village in rural India. Last year, PwP worked with Room to Read to build libraries in one of our favorite countries, Zambia.
This year, the goal is to provide wells in Haiti via Water.org.
Through our travels and volunteer work, we have seen just how many people in our world go without drinkable water. We have witnessed, firsthand, what happens when clean water is not available in a community – unthinkable sickness and even death.
Let's help to put an end to this.
We’re joining over 100 other travel bloggers/writers who have all secured fantastic prizes. Blog readers (you!) have the opportunity to check out the assortment of prizes. Then, for each $10 donation to Water.org you get entered into a drawing for the prize(s) of your choice. It’s simple. More on that below.
This year, for the 3rd time, PwP has put us in an "aloha" state of mind.
So we are tha-rilled to be partnering with Maui's Makena Beach and Golf Resort, our prize sponsor.
We knew immediately – before we even left their property for the next stop on our press trip a couple months ago – that we wanted to partner with MB&GR. When we suggested the partnership, they loved the idea of joining forces for a worthwhile cause.
What did we love? First off, the resort's away-from-the-crowds location is supremely peaceful, and it sits on one of the nicest stretches of beach we have seen on Maui.
The recently beautified rooms are modern without losing the Hawaiian vibe.
The resort offers a welcoming sense of place with all sorts of nice touches – water features, flower lined walkways, spacious grounds.
They have a small but inviting pool, a well equipped gym (yes, we used it) and a beachside day spa.
A highlight for us was the food (I know – surprise, surprise). The food and beverage team has worked some magic in creating top notch options. We especially enjoyed watching the sunset over mai tais.
Our Sunday brunch-with-a-view was also a favorite.
Our favorite activity, though, was exploring Turtle Town via kayak right at the hotel. We had a blast.
The Aloha Spirit thrives at Makena Beach and Golf Resort. We loved how comfortable and accessible everything was – nothing was fussy and the employees were remarkably warm.
So, are you ready for this...
Makena Beach and Golf Resort has donated a certificate for a 2-night stay in paradise. But that's not all. They are also throwing in daily buffet breakfast. Finally, they are including an authentic Hawaiian Outrigger Canoe experience and a snorkeling excursion so that you, too, can check out Turtle Town. Oh, and you won't have to worry about resort, parking or Internet fees – MB&GR doesn't play that game. See... no fuss.
All told, this package is valued at over $1000. What are you waiting for? Enter now! Each "entry" is $10. Follow these steps:
- Head on over to the prize catalog / donation page.
- Select the prize from Makena Beach and Gold Resort (and/or whichever strikes your fancy) and make your tax deductible donation via PayPal for a chance to win.
- Hold tight. Prize winners will be announced in late December.
Check out the PwP website for full details and shoot us an e-mail if you have questions or want our recommendations for how to make the most of your stay on Maui or at the MG&BR.
Here's hoping you win. Aloha!
