When we first arrived up in Fairbanks, Alaska for our second attempt at viewing the Aurora Borealis, we didn't think our chances were too hot. All that changed when - on Saturday night - we had a clear sky and a great viewing experience. And a lot of coffee and snacks to keep us awake.
We met some space researchers on our return flight. They said that it was an unusually good night for viewing. We really lucked out.
It was definitely a "best of" experience and something we would recommend to anyone who has even an ounce of interest in seeing the Aurora. Although Fairbanks isn't terribly exciting in the Winter, the people are remarkably friendly and there's a nice vibe up there.
