Part of the reason we took so long to get up to the west coast of Vancouver Island is because we were always waiting for a great deal. We’ve had our eye on a couple of places for a long long time, but we were always kind of holding tight for the right deal at this spendy destination. The two of us scored a air/hotel combo to Paris for under $1000 - we have a reputation to live up to. One day, very recently, we received an e-mail notification alerting us to the availability of a new hotel in the region. They were offering a grand opening rate of barely over a hundred bucks US - a steal for this region. Before jumping right on it, we decided to take a look at all of the online discounters. Interesting point.... For the last year or so, we’ve found that Orbitz, Expedia etc. are often less expensive than hotel websites (although these websites have always claimed these sorts of savings, they have, historically, fallen short).
So we made our way to Expedia and saw that they were offering the Black Rock with a discount layered on top of the hotel’s already incredible discount. It gets better.... We glommed on to an additional Expedia promo, providing a $50.00 gift card for every hotel stay of 4 or more nights. In the end, we secured an incredible hotel for well below $100 a night. Our room was brand new, huge, outfitted with a kitchenette, and perched on the edge of the ocean and a rainforest. What?!
