Road Tripping with Our National Park Passport

by NVR Guys
National Park Service - Passport To Your National Parks

Let the road trip begin!

We flew into Las Vegas and immediately set out on a small-scale road trip that will have us camping and exploring our way to Colorado. You know we can’t go too long without getting a hit of the great outdoors. So, by the time June rolls around, we’re eager to schedule some camping and hiking.

This is an especially exciting adventure for us because the stretch of the USA that we’ll be traveling – between Vegas and Denver – is a National Park jackpot!

Now is probably as good of a time as ever for us to fully come out of the closet as National Park fanatics. Sure, we talk about them often, but I don’t think we’ve gone so far as to say that they’re about the coolest thing ever. We’ll even be so bold as to proclaim that they are the best feature of our country.

How do you prove you’re extremist-level devotion to National Parks? With a Passport To Your National Parks, of course.

The book, sold by the National Park Service, is a planner’s dream. It breaks the country up into nine regions and provides all of the significant sites in each region. But that’s just where the fun begins. When you visit a site listed in the book, you record your visit  by getting a cancellation stamp. Check it out:

How fun is that.

Moreover, each year you can purchase a set of 10 stamps to place in your Passport.

Okay, it’s time to finish loading up on supplies here in St. George, Utah and to get back on the road.

Join us in supporting the National Park Service. Get your hands on a NP Passport (via their website or a NP) and start planning!

  1. So excited for you guys! You’re going to have such a great time. I’m a tad jealous ;) Not that we don’t have our own adventures planned for this summer as well, but no matter where you go in the world, it’s really tough to top America’s National Parks. My husband and I cant wait to try to visit them all with our kids some day (… guess we should get on that … we don’t have kids yet!). This would one awesome passport to fill. Talk about bragging rights!

I am already envious of your yet-to-be kids. If you can visit every NP with them, they will turn out to be the coolest kids ever. Ever.

My best friend has one of those national park passports. She lives in Vegas and often travels to Utah or somewhere else nearby to go hiking or biking and explore national parks. Hope you’re having fun!

You guys are such geeks, I can’t believe you have a national park passport hahaha! I didn’t even know such a thing existed. Oh well – enjoy the great outdoors and a hopefully even greater summer! Now go hike, take some amazing photos, don’t forget the suncream, and try not to get eaten by coyotes or run over by roadrunners :D

We are no longer going to live in shame. It is time the whole world knows just how geeky we truly are.

We have a fool proof approach to dealing with Road Runners. We purchased an Acme brand anvil and we will simply create a trap using a little bird seed. When the Road Runner eats the seed, SPLAT, we drop the anvil. What could possibly go wrong?

You bet that area is a National Park jackpot! Wish I was on a road trip there right now, too. The NP Passport sounds pretty cool. Congrats on fully coming out of the closet. :)

I know you have been doing a series of posts on Washington, DC which is another NP jackpot. We just about had a National Parks Passport panic attack there. Practically every monument has it’s own stamp, so getting every stamp is can be a bit of a baffling ordeal. Turns out almost all of the cancelation stamps are in a little gift shop by the Washington Monument. SO EXCITING!

  5. Is the passport different from the pass where you get entry into so many parks for a set fee?

Yes. You’re talking about the $80 pass that gives you free admission for a year. The passport is a way for NP freaks to document visits.

  6. That stretch of the U.S. is definitely the best for national parks. I’ll be experiencing Utah-envy for sure.
