Get Croatia on Your Travel Bucket List
Before even getting off the plane, we knew we’d like Croatia. Our short flight from Spain took place on a particularly clear day, and we could see the jagged, verdant coastline as we flew along it into Dubrovnik.
I got goose bumps. That hasn’t happened in a long time.
Here is a selection of some of the first pictures we snapped in the Dubrovnik area. They give you a sense of what we quickly grew to love: the dramatic, Pacific-Northwest-like coast, the charming old town, the blankets of red-roofed houses, and the killer views out to the water and the islands beyond.

Ooooh, I’ve been thinking about Croatia. Hopefully I can fit it into my summer plans.
Have you not been on one of the ships?
We get to go this fall!
Cool! I think you’ll like it.
That water’s a whole lot bluer than the Pacific-Northwest stuff.
Which one of those boats will you be renting for the duration of your stay?
A boat is the way to do this area! Kayaking is the best we can do
Yes, the water is more beautiful than it is in the PNW, but the coastline has a very PNW feel.
Very nice! Added to bucket list. Thanks!
Very good, Raymond – you take direction very well!
This reminds me of photos I saw of Greece. Very beautiful.
I loved Dubrovnik! Such a gorgeous city, enjoy! I haven’t seen anything else in Croatia, so I really want to go back soon.
We decided immediately that we’ll be going back.
Very nice photos!
I think the only photos I’ve seen of Croatia are of the Plitvice Lakes. It’s nice to see a different perspective.
We have a lot to see when we return (like those lakes).
We did Croatia and Slovenia about 8 years ago by train and ferry. LOVED it! Go to Plitvice Lakes for sure, and if you get the chance, take the train to ljubljana, Slovenia and on to the Julian Alps for some of the most beautiful hiking anywhere!
We want to return for the hiking!
Oh man, you guys are giving me goosebumps too! Croatia has ALWAYS been on my bucket list – my grandmother was 100% Croatian, so it’s the strongest family roots I have. It’s become a top priority for the near future of my travel planning. Enjoy!
Yes, get Croatia to the TOP of your list. With your roots, it deserves to be there!
Couldn’t agree with your title any more. We spent just 10 days touring the country and easily could have made it 20. Must. Go. Back.
I remember seeing your pictures and thinking “I think we’ll like it there!”
Wow, not only are these stunning photos, but we’ve got to head to Croatia now. FOR REALZ. How did I never know it was this beautiful? Where have I been my whole life?
Let’s talk about it in Seattle this summer
I’ve only heard good things too. It’s been added to the list.
Oh, I love those travel goose bumps! Croatia has been on my list, but your photos have made me even more excited to go there.
Travel goose bumps are among the best occurrences in life. Made me realize that it’d been a long time since I had that strong of an immediate reaction to a place.
Wow, those are beautiful photos!
Thanks, Mike!
Awww I so wanted to go to Croatia while I was in Europe, but it was already winter & I know I wanna visit it while its HOT. I wanna enjoy it and get some beach time in there as well. It’s on my list of places to visit… and I hope I make it there one day!!!
Here’s an idea… Take Mr. Egypt up there for a getaway!
WOW – Croatia just got bumped in my bucket list!
Great photos – it’s such a cool coastline. We only got as far south as Split before turning around. Yup, still kicking ourselves!
Seems so beautiful! Definitely added it to my bucket list but doubt if I may ever visit it…
Thanks for sharing the fabulous pics.
I just recently wrote about how much I loved Croatia – I was in Dubrovnik as well as Split, Trogir and Hvar, but I’d love to go back to see more of the interior. Glad you guys liked it!
Wow – you made tracks, Emily! We’re already excited to get back so that we can branch out a bit.
Beautiful pictures of a stunning landscape!
This is EXACTLY how I feel! I’m heading here next month and I’m googly-eyed with excitement!
Can’t wait to hear about your experience!
Really hoping to make it there in the next month! Need to get out of the EU for a bit and I keep thinking Croatia might just be the spot to do it in! Love the photos!
Let us know what you think!
Croatia really is beautiful. We honeymooned there in 2010 and none of our friends here in the States had really heard of the country. They thought it was so strange that we would want to go there. As our photos — and yours — show, they were the ones missing out. Great post!
We’re noticing that when we say “Croatia” we get the blank stare. I guess that’s a good thing!
Oh I loved Croatia too! Such a pretty country – though a lot of other people evidently felt the same way because every city was packed with holiday-makers!
Beautiful photos! Croatia is on my bucket list but I really need to go, especially since it’s just a 5 our drive from Munich.
I think you’ll love it, Laurel!
AHHH stop posting beautiful photos of Croatia! I was supposed to go 2 years ago but it got last minute cancelled… so sad!
Well, get it rescheduled (or we could continue to torture you with photos).
Fabulous Pics! Bravo Boys!
Can’t wait to go!
Thanks, guys!
Nice shots. I was there for 2 days a few years ago. It is a really cool place to wander around and through. We didn’t walk the walls, but I have seen Ali’s pictures when she did and really recommend it.
Did you spend a lot of time in other parts of Croatia?
_dying_ to go to Croatia!! loved looking your photos!!
Beautiful photos! We are starting our trip in Asia but will eventually make it over to Europe and Croatia is definitely on the list. How long were you there/how did you split up the time?
We were in Croatia for a week (after spending time in Spain and Marrakech). We stayed in Dubrovnik the entire time, having quickly made the decision that we’ll be back!
Very nice, though it reminds me of Greece and Turkey, might drop in for a week or two.
We almost made it to Croatia this year, then changed plans and headed to Italy instead. Italy is always nice, but I really have to get to Croatia. Your photos of Dubrovnik are beautiful. I think I’ll revisit this page for my Croatia fix, until I can get there in person! Thanks, guys!
Yes, get Croatia on your list!
